
Robert Horsford
Robert Horsford is a third-generation real estate professional, who studied under his immigrant entrepreneur grandfather, Victor Horsford (founder of Victor Horsford Realty Corp. in Harlem). With family roots in the Dominican Republic and the West Indies, Rob received a Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Civil Engineering and Business Management from Brown University. After serving as project manager for Verizon Global Construction and project engineer at Gilbane Building Company, he founded Apex in 1997. The company has gone on to complete over $1.3 billion in new and moderate construction, adding or preserving more than 7,500 affordable residential units within New York and New Jersey. On the development side, Apex has a portfolio of projects completed and under development totaling over $1.7 billion in mixed-used and residential housing. Rob serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Harlem Real Estate Board and NY State Association for Affordable Housing.
Apex recently completed construction of “Alafia C3” at 20 South Street in Brooklyn, a 100% affordable residential building with 124-units and part of Phase 1 of a multi-phase development project totaling over $364 million.
Apex and JV partners at Gilbane Development recently secured $445 million in financing to renovate Manhattanville Houses in Harlem, Manhattan.
Apex was recently awarded NYC Mayor Adams’ 24-in-24 Prospect Heights, Brooklyn publicly-owned site to build 116-units of affordable housing with community space, outdoor garden and wellness center as part of the building’s amenities.
Robert worked with NYC City Hall and HPD to advocate for and support the creation of a new $500 million NYC MBE Guaranty Facility to support minority-owned developers build more affordable housing.
Robert was recognized by Crain’s New York Business as a “Notable Black Leader and Executive” in 2021 for advancing Apex Building Group’s work to revitalize neighborhoods through the development of quality affordable housing and collaboration with like-minded organizations that are motivated to support the most vulnerable communities.
